The Radical Geographers of Edinburgh is an open reading group that provides a space for staff and students to critically discuss ideas. We meet fortnightly during term time on Wednesday afternoons.
Our logo is adapted from the preface of Elisée Reclus’ L’Homme et la Terre. It was originally accompanied by the slogan “humanity is nature becoming self-conscious.” Reclus was a fascinating figure – anarchist, geographer, feminist, ecologist, animal rights activist, anti-racist – and, through his links to Patrick Geddes, spent time in Edinburgh lecturing to the public. It is in the spirit of his work that we approach our discussions: believing that, in some small way, learning and teaching geography can improve our world and the lives lived on it.
You are welcome to join our group whatever your position inside or outside the University.
